Joanna Piacenza’s writing, research, and communications interests lie at the intersection of media, religion, and politics, specifically Buddhism and digital spaces. Her contributions and work have been cited in The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The Washington Post, among others, and she has written for Vice News, Vice’s Motherboard, Religion Dispatches, The Huffington Post, First Things, and Tricycle: The Buddhist Review blog.
Piacenza has spoken internationally and domestically on the topic of media and religion. Her master’s thesis explored new definitions of American religion and spirituality, as seen through the lens of Buddhist meditation apps.
She currently serves as PRRI’s Editor and Communications Manager and writes about religion, immigration, economic inequality, the criminal justice system, and LGBT issues from a data-happy point of view.
